Villa Palmerino
Last weekend I flew to Florence for the long (Irish) bank holiday weekend, to catch up with some NZ friends and generally take a bit of a break from life. With temperatures in the high 30's, I didn't actually make it into the city, but had a wonderful couple of days chatting and eating some amazing food, wandering through roman ruins and victorian inspired Tuscan gardens. The landscape was like being immersed in a painting, and the morning light was just luscious for photos. Though once a sceptic, I'm no longer in any doubt as to why Tuscany has lured artists for well over a century. Our residence was the serene and leafy Villa Palmerino, which has played host to many academics and artists over the years, and is a perfect oasis of calm from the fiery midday sun. Thanks so much Hugh and Marion for inviting me over. It was lovely to meet some more of the extended CSAFE family. I'm looking forward to catching up with you soon.
